11 - What is the land footprint of a single UDG/EGS-plant?
The vast majority of the "reservoir" is miles underground; surface footprint is tightly clustered. In general it looks and feels like a small gas plant, requiring no massive storage fields or heavy fuel-handling or safety zones.
If you include mining and fuel supply lines (life-cycle footprint), nuclear requires uranium mining and milling. Natural gas requires massive networks of pipelines and hundreds of scattered well pads. EGS requires zero external fuel mining. Its "fuel" is the Earth itself, meaning its life-cycle land footprint stays almost entirely confined to the initial drilling site. In other words: when considering the entire life cycle, its total land footprint is among the smallest of any baseload power source.
